François Schmitt has been elected as the President of Groupama Assurances Mutuelles, in a meeting held by the Board of Directors on June 9, 2023. He succeeds Jean-Yves Dagès, who had been in this position since 2012.

François Schmitt, a farmer and livestock breeder in Moselle, has been the President of the regional branch Groupama Grand Est and a board member of Groupama since 2008. Since 2018, he has been serving as the Deputy President of the Mutualist Orientation Council of Groupama Assurances Mutuelles, a member of the Audit and Risk Committee, and the Chairman of the Board of Directors of GAN Patrimoine.

As the President of the Agriculture and Rural Affairs Commission, he represented Groupama in the French Agricultural Council and in the presidium of the Committee of Agricultural Professional Organizations of the European Union (COPA).

François Schmitt has been involved with Groupama since 1993, starting at the local branch in Thionville, Moselle.

François Schmitt

Becoming the President of Groupama Assurances Mutuelles is a great honor, but also a significant responsibility. Groupama has once again become a strong mutual insurance group. I would like to acknowledge the work accomplished by Jean-Yves Dagès over the past ten years. Given the highly uncertain context in which our fellow citizens live, and building on our new mutualistic momentum, my goal is to prioritize the attention given to our members and clients during my mandate, while continuing to strengthen our technical and financial foundations. This ambition, which concerns the entire Group, will be carried out together with Thierry Martel, the 31,000 employees, and the 27,000 elected officials of Groupama.

After ten years that enabled the recovery and remutualization of the Group under the presidency of Jean-Yves Dagès, François Schmitt takes the reins to address the numerous challenges that Groupama faces today. I thank him for his trust and look forward to writing, together with him, and with all our elected officials and collaborator, the new chapters of the history of our century-old Group.
