The Gan Foundation unveils its 2024 winners!

2 December 2024

Fondation Gan x Ugo Bienvenu

For over 35 years, Gan Assurances has been contributing to cinematographic creation through the Gan Foundation for Cinema. 8 filmmakers join the 244 laureates already honored by the Foundation since its creation.

Who are they?

Each year, the Gan Foundation’s “Aide à la Création” awards prizes to feature film projects (first and second films), selected on the basis of a screenplay.

This year’s jury was chaired by filmmaker Erwan LE DUC (see photo below), with Myriam HACÈNE (Director of Acquisitions Ciné+ / OCS at Groupe CANAL+), Alexis HOFMANN (Director of Acquisitions at Bac Films), Éric LIBIOT (Editor-in-Chief of Écran Total), Julie SALVADOR (Producer and Founder of Christmas in July) and Dominique HOFF (Managing Director of the Gan Foundation).

Two commissions were organized in 2024 and 125 screenplays studied (including 80% first features, 20% second features and 42% projects proposed by female directors).

Six filmmakers received awards:

  • Marine Atlan for her project LA GRADIVA; first feature film produced by Inès Daïen Dasi ● Les Films du Poisson
  • HU Wei for her project 49 JOURS; first feature film produced by Sylvie Pialat ● Les Films du Worso
  • Martin Jauvat for his project BAISE EN VILLE ; second feature film produced by Emmanuel Chaumet ● Ecce Films
  • Maïté Sonnet for her project TU FERAS TOMBER LES ROIS ; first feature film produced by Ethan Selcer ● Quartett Production
  • Marie Amachoukeli and Vladimir Mavounia-Kouka for their project HAPPY END; first animation co-direction, produced by Emmanuel-Alain Raynal ● Miyu Productions

As part of its Diffusion Assistance program, the Foundation awarded a Diffusion Prize to the films JULIE SE TAIT by Leonardo Van Dijl at the Semaine de la Critique in Cannes, and FLOW by Gints Zilbalodis, at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival.
The €20,000 Gan Foundation Distribution Prize was awarded to French distributors Jour2Fête and UFO Distribution respectively.

At the 2024 Prize-winners’ Evening, held on Monday evening at La Cinémathèque française, a revelation of a different kind was on the program: the surprise of a new generic visual, signed by artist Ugo Bienvenu, winner of the 2023 Special Prize for ARCO.

After the elephant visual by Michael Dudok de Wit, who embodied the Gan Foundation for 7 years, we were treated to this happy, bouncy “film crew”, on their way to a shoot.

Dominique Hoff, Managing Director of the Foundation, and artist Ugo Bienvenu look back on their collaboration and tell you all about this new visual in an interview with la 7ème Obsession, available here.  (link pending)
